Private Storage captures now run AI through a dedicated client queue instead of hitching processing to a background sync pass. Leaving the app mid-analysis, a crash, or a short system background window is less likely to leave a note stuck or silently skipped. Lease recovery is faster on the same device, multi-file notes decrypt the right attachment for reprocess, and encrypted upload waits for real AI completion.

Mac beta 0.9.45 — fewer Keychain prompts after updates

Some Mac updates could make Shared Spaces ask for the same Keychain approval over and over while sync decrypted shared notes. After you approve a shared-space key, Clevernotes now reuses it during that launch instead of asking again for each sync or decryption pass.

Mac beta 0.9.44 — Sign in with Apple, clearer first launch

Apple accounts now sign in through Apple’s secure web flow, so Sign in with Apple works in release builds on the Mac. The first-launch flow was redesigned on both platforms — profile, permission, and shortcut choices with less friction — and signing into a fresh account on an already-onboarded Mac now shows the missing profile step instead of skipping it. iPhone beta 1.0.11 with the same onboarding overhaul is rolling out on TestFlight.

Mac betas 0.9.42–0.9.43 — Private Storage becomes the default

Private Storage is now the default — and only — storage mode for every account: new captures are encrypted on your device before they sync. (Because email capture can’t be encrypted before it reaches our cloud, forwarding to capture@clevernotes.ai is disabled.)

A reliability batch shipped alongside it: interrupted AI work now resumes instead of leaving a note waiting, old results are cleared before a fresh pass so summaries and search do not show stale information, and private captures generate Sparks again while staying encrypted in storage. The Mac also asks for keychain access once instead of repeatedly during sync.

Mac betas 0.9.36–0.9.41 — updates keep local data, faster launches

Until now, a Mac update could leave the app rebuilding its local library after replacement. Local data, search indexes, files, and previews now live in a stable container that survives updates, and when a full re-download is still needed it runs in smaller batches with clearer progress. Launch got faster, sidebar sections now collapse to fit shorter windows, new users start in a dedicated welcome window, and PDFs, previews, encrypted private attachments, and shared-space files now resolve to the right original file before opening.

Mac betas 0.9.33–0.9.35 — device removal rotates keys, remote wipe

Removing or untrusting a device now protects future private notes for the remaining trusted devices, and a removed device is asked to clear its local private data the next time it syncs. Personal and shared spaces now behave consistently across Mac and iPhone. Also fixed: Refresh Devices no longer hangs when the network stalls, and large private libraries no longer stall the app at launch.

Mac betas 0.9.30–0.9.32 — Shared Spaces for every account

Shared Spaces — end-to-end-encrypted spaces you can invite other people into — now appear in Settings and the sidebar for every account. Create, rename, invite, approve join requests, review members, and delete spaces from the Mac while iPhone stays in sync. iPhone can also attach an encrypted city or region label to new Private Storage captures so search can recall where something happened.

Mac betas 0.9.26–0.9.29 — trusted devices unlock correctly

A batch of Private Storage trust fixes. Approving a new device now gives it the information it needs to read existing private notes — previously a freshly approved iPhone could stay stuck on “Private Entry” placeholders. A newly signed-in iPhone now waits for approval or recovery before uploading private entries, so it cannot strand existing notes, and older trusted devices are repaired automatically. Trusted devices now show readable names and platform labels, and you can rename, untrust, or remove them from the account.

Mac betas 0.9.23–0.9.25 — Private Storage: opt-in encryption for your notes

Turn on Private Storage and new private captures are encrypted on your device before they sync: notes, transcripts, files, AI summaries, memory data, and search data are stored in a form Clevernotes cannot read. A 24-word recovery key and device verification unlock private notes on a new device. Keep the recovery key somewhere safe — without a trusted device or the key, private notes cannot be recovered.

You can convert existing notes when you’re ready, then run Verify Migration to confirm everything re-encrypted and still opens. Also new: App Lock (Touch ID or your system password, with launch lock and an inactivity timeout). The two follow-up builds added trusted-device approval, faster private migrations, clearer recovery-key errors, and self-repairing private search data.

Mac beta 0.9.21 — recording reliability and clearer triage

Meeting recording now reconnects system audio more reliably, warning states are clearer, settings changes apply immediately, and Spark triage actions now use “Dismiss” language instead of “Delete”.

Local AI tool access in shipped Mac builds

Local Tools Access now works in release builds through the Mac app. You can connect coding tools such as Codex or Claude, give each one its own access, and revoke that access later. The older developer API remains developer-only.

Search quality and email capture updates

Compound searches now prioritize exact document matches more reliably, stale local search indexes rebuild automatically, and forwarded email captures are cleaned into readable Markdown with non-inline attachments preserved.

Editorial mono design system and website refresh

CleverPal model picker — Gemini + Grok

People view, better AI search, and Data Controls

macOS beta now includes a People view that keeps meetings, notes, and follow-ups connected around the same person. Search and CleverPal also got clearer result lists with source links when a question is better answered by matches than by a single paragraph.

Data Controls now make generated AI data easier to manage. You can control generated memory and search data and delete existing generated data when needed, while local AI tool access now lives with AI model settings.
