Clevernotes vs. Evernote

Evernote organizes what you save. Clevernotes is built around what happens next.

Evernote is a mature, cross-platform notes library with a strong clipper, collaboration, tasks, calendar, and AI. Clevernotes starts from a different default: capture the mess, review suggested next steps, ask later with sources, and keep stored note content encrypted with keys on your trusted devices.

Last verified July 9, 2026 from each product’s public pages.

Choose by the job

Evernote Keep a broad notes library organized across every major platform. Best fit: archive breadth, collaboration, web access, mature clipping.
Clevernotes Turn today’s mixed captures into next steps you approve. Best fit: proactive follow-through, source-linked recall, device-side encrypted storage.

The honest short version

Neither product wins every job.

Choose Evernote if

Your archive and platform reach come first.

  • You need Windows, Android, or full web access today.
  • You rely on a mature Web Clipper and years of notebooks.
  • Real-time collaboration and broad integrations matter most.
  • You want familiar notes, tasks, and calendar in one workspace.
Try Clevernotes if

The loose end after capture is the real problem.

  • You collect voice memos and screenshots faster than you organize them.
  • You want suggested tasks, reminders, events, and follow-ups to approve or dismiss.
  • You want answers that link back to the original capture.
  • You want note content encrypted on your device before sync.

Capability by capability

Similar ingredients. A different default.

Evernote’s recent AI work is real. Clevernotes’ advantage is not that Evernote lacks AI; it is the capture-to-action loop and the storage architecture around it.

Where Clevernotes is different

One capture can come back three useful ways.

The original stays attached while Clevernotes helps you act now and verify later.

A contractor quote PDF saved as its original capture in Clevernotes, with Sparks detected
1 · Capture

Keep the messy original.

Talk, snap, scan, share, or drop in a file without stopping to build a filing system.

2 · Follow through

Review what it found.

Sparks proposes real next steps. Nothing is added until you approve it.

3 · Recall

Ask and check the source.

CleverPal answers across your captures and keeps the original note one click away.

The privacy difference

Both encrypt data. The key difference is where note content becomes readable.

Evernote’s public security page describes server-side encryption at rest with Google-managed keys. That is a standard, serious cloud-security model.

Clevernotes encrypts note content on your device before it syncs. Clevernotes cloud stores the encrypted version and does not keep a readable copy of your notes, transcripts, files, summaries, memory data, or search data.

When you request AI help, selected content can still be processed temporarily by Clevernotes and approved AI providers for that request. Device-side storage encryption is not the same as “never leaves your device.”
